Facelift
In older people,
or those exposed to large amounts of sun or stress, wrinkled, creased skin
can develop on the face, neck or forehead, along with fat deposits and folds
around the jaws and jowls. While
a facelift can’t stop the aging process, in many cases it can “turn back
the clock.”
Facelifts can
be performed alone, or with other
cosmetic procedures such as
eyelid or
forehead surgery. Most are
performed under slight anesthesia in our office out-patient surgery suite.
Depending on the
area to be treated, facelifts usually involve incisions made along the
hairline, which extend around the ears.
The skin is lifted away from the fat and muscle underneath, and
excess fat is removed.
Dr.
Messa tightens the underlying muscle and fascia (the SMAS), and after any excess
skin is removed, the skin is tightened and secured with sutures.
Swelling and
minor discomfort lasts a few days, and stitches are usually removed within a
week. Patients are usually able
to return to work in one to two weeks.
